's new sporting director Deco has admitted it would have been 'impossible' for the Spanish giants to re-sign Neymar this summer.

Deco, who played 161 games for Barca and won two Liga titles, has admitted his side's financial position meant they were unable to sign Neymar.

He told : 'Everyone knows that at the moment, unfortunately, because of our financial situation, it was impossible to make a signing like that. 

'We needed to reach an agreement with PSG, something that couldn't be done. It was a situation where it would have to be something economically viable for us, but it wasn't possible because of our current situation.'

The Brazil forward played his first European football for Barcelona after signing from Santos in 2013.

He scored 105 goals in 186 games for the club and won the treble in 2015, but ultimately left for PSG two years later.

The French giants released a video of him as he prepared to move to Riyadh. There was even a hug for Kylian Mbappe, despite the pair not always seeing eye-to-eye.

Al-Hilal had previously made a, but the striker was unwilling to take it.

Despite a turbulent summer, the 24-year-old now looks after re-joining the first team.

Meanwhile, Neymar will join a number of other talents brought to Al-Hilal from European clubs this summer including Kalidou Koulibaly, Ruben Neves and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
